Combining Grid and Cloud Technologies

StratusLab is developing a complete, open-source cloud distribution that allows grid and non-grid resource centers to offer and to exploit an “Infrastructure as a Service” cloud. It is particularly focused on enhancing distributed computing infrastructures such as the European Grid Infrastructure (EGI).

The project uses agile methodologies to rapidly evolve the distribution to meet cloud user and administrator demands. It operates a reference infrastructure to get feedback from users and to validate the distribution.

The project lowers entry barriers by providing “stock” machine images, customization tools, and a “Marketplace” for sharing them. Complete service management with auto-scaling, handling peak demands with hybrid clouds, and other advanced features will appear in later releases.

See the description of the current release to understand the available features and the roadmap to see what is planned. Please comment on the roadmap so that we can adjust our priorities.
